Sire: Star Witness
Trainer: Chris Munce
Foal Date: 01/10/2016
THIS FILLY IS BY STAR WITNESS WHO IS DOING A TERRIFIC JOB AT STUD – ALREADY SIRING HORSES LIKE MULTIPLE GROUP 1 WINNER GLOBAL GLAMOUR.
This filly has everything Adrenaline Thoroughbred Syndications need to see, athletic with the scope to develop into a classy three-year-old middle distance runner. Physically she’s strong, correct and moves along with a fluid action.
The sire, Star Witness was a 2yo of the highest quality, winning his first 3 starts including the Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield. At three he proved to be the best sprinter in his age group, winning the Gr.1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and defeating horses such as topline sprinter Buffering. In his next start he ran the bravest of seconds to the unbeatable Black Caviar in the Gr.1 Patinack Farm Classic leaving behind an entire field of Gr.1 winners including Ortensia, All Silent, Melito and Hay List.
After a short preparation in Victoria he travelled to Europe to take on their best sprinters at Weight for Age, running a close second in the Gr. 1 King’s Stand Stakes and a brave third in the Golden Jubilee Stakes after finding himself in front too early and tiring late in the soft going.
Since retiring from the track, Star Witness has done a great job in the breeding barn for Widden Stud – this being reflected by his 2016 service fee of $22,000 rising to $33,000 in 2017. In order to achieve this fee rise he has been producing a line-up of quality horses including 12 stakes winners and nine stakes place getters (as of Feb 20th 2018).
The dam of this filly, Incensed, was a Darley filly that remained unraced due to a barrier incident. We feel she has a quality pedigree to underpin her chances of succeeding in the breeding barn. She is by Strategic who won the Gr. 1 William Reed Stakes and has at stud produced 27 Stakes winners including Gr.1 winners Mistegic (Champion 3yo Sprinter) and Meurice (Champion 2yo).
The dam of Incensed – Zacheline – is a daughter of the renowned Zabeel, winner of the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas, twice-named Champion Australian Sire, twice-named Champion Australian Broodmare Sire, and crowned New Zealand Champion Sire a total of 15 times. Zabeels’s progeny include 47 individual Gr. 1 winners including Octagonal, Might and Power, Efficient, Savabeel, and Jezabeel and have accumulated more than $186 million in prize money. When breeding there is no ground more solid than finding Zabeel in a mare’s pedigree. On the racetrack Zacheline was a classy and very tough mare who won twice at Gr.1 level in both the Queensland and South Australian Oaks along with a close-up 4th in the VRC Oaks.
This filly was bred and raised at Rosemont Stud in Victoria who last year produced four individual Gr.1 winners. An incredible record which shows the quality that this medium sized farm can achieve from smaller numbers.

Who better to train your horse than a man who knows how a champion racehorse must move, who can talk to jockeys in their own language, and who has the known hunger to win at the highest level?
Chris Munce is one of only seven jockeys ever to win Australia’s thoroughbred racing grand slam: the Melbourne Cup, the Caulfield Cup, the Cox Plate, and the Golden Slipper. He was one of the nation’s premier horsemen. Trusted by Australia’s top trainers, Chris rode some of the best gallopers of our generation, including Desert War, Dance Hero, Dane Ripper and Savabeel. When Chris finished his riding career with a staggering 42 Group victories, becoming a trainer was a natural progression.
Not every jockey can transition to the other side of the rails, but Chris Munce’s background in racing and working with horses has seen him make the change successfully. He has always applied a considered analytical approach to riding and his father-in-law is trainer Barry Mitchell.
Chris has seen first-hand the practices of Australia’s most experienced trainers and is now applying all he has learned in his own stable. And it’s paying off.
Now in his fourth season of training, Chris is one of the leading trainers in Brisbane. He has shown he can work with horses with diverse strengths – sprinters, stayers, older horses, and two-year-olds – and he dedicates effort and attention towards getting the best out of all horses with his positive approach.
That approach saw Chris saddle-up two stakes winners within 40-minutes of each other during the last month of 2016. The first was Ours To Keep in the Listed Phelan Ready the second and more importantly for Adrenaline Thoroughbreds was Champ Elect in the Listed Calaway Gal, both were over 1100 m., giving Munce a double of stakes wins as his career transitions from professional jockey to trainer. Chris continues to ride track work, giving him unparalleled insights into the movement and temperament of the horses in his care.
Munce Racing’s boutique stable is a great fit for Adrenaline Thoroughbreds as they have known Chris for a number of years and Adrenaline are proud to be partnering with one of Brisbane’s best to get the most out of their thoroughbreds.
