STRYKER COLT OFF TO GOLLAN
Here’s your chance to buy a share in a two-year-old colt that has been broken-in and had his first trial under the guidenese of Queensland’s leading trainer, Tony Gollan.
A bay colt by Stryker, a Group 3 winning son of Fastnet Rock (by Danehill) that commenced covering duties in the spring of 2011 and already has a Group 1 winner Rangipo (New Zealand Derby).
This colt is out of Absolute Harmony, an expensive yearling purchase made by Robert Roulston Bloodstock in 2006 when knocked down at auction for $900,000. By Redoute’s Choice, Absolute Harmony is a three-quarter sister to the Group 2 VRC Linlithgow and MRC Caulfield Sprint Stakes winner Éclair Choice (by California Dane), out of the unraced, Bounce (by Woodman).
Stryker descends from a branch of a family that’s produced Denise’s Joy, via Joy And Fun (by Showdown) and is an unraced half-sister to Joie Denise, dam of Group 1 winners Tuesday Joy and Sunday Joy in-turn the dam of eight-time Group 1 winner More Joyous. Other notable stakes winners from this family include three-time Group 1 winner Bentley Biscuit (by Peintre Celebre), Stradbroke Handicap winner Thorn Park (by Spinning World), Queensland Oaks winner Miss Danehill (by Danehill), as well as the stakes winning Pentastic (by Pentire), Point Made (by Red Ransom), Don’t Doubt Mamma (by Not a Single Doubt) and Risen from Doubt (by Not a Single Doubt).
Stryker is out of Laetitia (by Woodman) a winner of three races and in-turn the dam of eight living foals. Five of those foals have raced and all are winners including the stakes placed Exceed and Exalt (by Exceed and Excel), Puerto Banus (by Encosta de Lago) and Seeking Attention (by Exceed and Excel).
NOT ENOUGH? Stryker has 120 starters as of November 8th, and statistics show 51 individual winners for two stakes winners and four stakes placegetters with earnings of more than $2million.
When Stryker has covered mares by Redoute’s Choice four have raced and they are: Margiel Stryker (ex Margiela) a winner of two races from four-starts with earnings of $20,725 (as of 8/11/16); Lightning Striker (ex My Amelia) and Bay Harmony (Absolute Harmony) both are winners while the remaining named horse is Stryker’s Flame (ex Absorb) and the filly has been to the races three times.
The syndicate will be managed by Terry Robinson from Team Thoroughbreds.
Tony Gollan has won the past three Brisbane metropolitan trainers premierships (2013-14; 2014-15 and 2015-16) and in claiming his most recent title chalked up 87-1/2metropolitan winners, cementing his place in Queensland racing history a year after breaking Bruce McLachlan’s long standing record of 78 metropolitan winners.
Gollan has trained more than 740 wins during his career todate including stakes wins by the now retired stable stars Temple of Boom (Group 1 winner with over $1.7 million prize money), Spirit of Boom (dual Group 1 winner with over $2.4 million prize money) and Listen Son (more than $600,000 prize money).
Tony brings the knowledge of generations to his training practices. He learned from his father, thoroughbred trainer Darryl Gollan, and was mentored by the late JJ Atkins (Australian Racing Hall of Fame trainer).
Originally from Toowoomba, Tony relocated his Darling Downs stable to Eagle Farm in 2012 and industry insiders were quick to notice his advanced training capabilities and potential. Radio TAB thoroughbred caller David Fowler tipped Tony to be “the next big thing in Queensland racing”.
Veteran racing journalist Bart Sinclair said, “rarely have I been so confident about a young trainer rising through the ranks to stake a claim as a leader in his chosen career”. His success in the 2013-14; 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons prove these high expectations were justified.
Tony’s black-type achievements include:
Tony has so far saddled up 33-black type winners and he recently opened a stable at Rosehill in New South Wales to take advantage of the increased prizemoney on offer.
Gollan’s detailed knowledge of his horses accompanied by candid performance appraisals and generosity towards owners are a winning service combination.
