ELITE SUPPORTS STRATUM AGAIN IN 2014

Gary Portelli and Elite Thoroughbreds have had great success with the progeny by Stratum. Portelli said “we have had plenty of luck with the Stratums and I love training them.

Only recently, Elite Thoroughbreds and I have combined to produce Stratums such as lm All The Talk, Straturbo and Miss Spoken, all of whom are Group or city grade winners. This is what the good ones look like!”

Stratum retired for stud duties with an ANZ Classification of 114 in 2006 and from the first crop of 150 foals a bay filly from Crystal Snip (by Snippets) was born.   Named, Crystal Lily the filly gave Stratum a perfect start to his stud career winning the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

Stratum has since added two more winners’ at the highest level in Streama (ex Pensiamo by Sovereign Red) winner of the 2011 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), the 2012 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) and the 2013 George Main Stakes (1600m).

The third Group 1 winner is Southern Lord (ex Angel Girl by Rory’s Jester) a winner of the 2012 Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m) in New Zealand.

Stratum, has five crops to have raced world-wide and from those crops statistics reveal 465 starters (as of 22/12/14) for 312 individual winners, a runner to winner ratio of 67.5%, 26 stakes winners and 34 stakes placegetters that have earned connections more than $32.7million.

NOT ENOUGH?  Kitty Cash (by Secret Savings) is out of Coureuse (by Tierce) and is a proven producer being the dam of Sichuan Success (by Fastnet Rock), winner of six races including the Hong Kong Group 3 Premier Cup.   Coureuse has also left the stakes placegetters Tom Coureuse (by Beautiful Crown), Yellow Diamond (by Commands) and Pirouettes (by Danehill Dancer).

Kitty Cash is the dam of an unraced two year-old named, La Femme Fatale (by Fastnet Rock), and has a weanling chestnut colt by Star Witness at foot and was covered last spring by the Blue Diamond winner again.

The syndicate will be managed by Adrian Allan from Elite Thoroughbreds.

Gary Portelli added to his Group 1 tally early in the 2013-14 racing season when Rebel Dane strode home ahead of Fontelina and Solzhenitsyn in the Invitation Stakes, sponsored by Rupert Clarke, at Caulfield last September.  Rebel Dane’s win added to the Group 1 AJC Oaks victory of Rena’s Lady and the New Zealand Railway Stakes win with his top class sprinter, Gold Trail.

At the close of the 2012-13 season, Gary signed off the stables seasonal earnings with $1.2million with the new season ticking over since August 1st, 2013 the stable is on track to surpass that figure with earnings totaling $738,385 as of January 23rd, 2014.

Along with the win in the Group 1, Rebel Dane also won the Group 3 Show County at Warwick Farm Portelli also applied the polish to the Elite Thoroughbreds syndicated Straturbo winning three races this campaign with victories at Randwick on the Kensington track, Canterbury and Gosford.

While in the past 2012-13 season, Portelli had I’m All The Talk in the stable for Elite Thoroughbreds, and gave the group a massive thrill when the colt won on debut and then went on to a win in the Group 3 Skyline Stakes at Rosehill.

Statistics reveal that Portelli has saddled up 28 stakes winners, as of January 21st, 2014, since the year 2000 and Gary is committed to keep the returns coming to all of his owners.  Both, he and his brother, Troy, continue to strive for excellence to ensure client satisfaction.
