WEEKEND GOSSIP FOR ELITE

Out of the lightly raced Weekend Gossip, a daughter of Hussonet, and a half-sister to the outstanding ANZ Australasian Champion 3YO and joint top colt in 2005-06 season, Mentality (by Flying Spur).

This flashy colt, with his blonde mane and tail was at the top of the TTSC Authorised Representative, Adrian Allan from Elite Thoroughbreds' list being a full-brother to
Straturbo.

Allan purchased, Straturbo last year from the Magic Millions National sale and he is so
impressed with the older brother saying " He (Straturbo) is an outstanding mover and has broken in well.

"The mare is only a six-year-old and this colt is every bit as a nice walker, and, nicely balanced!" Allan said with a huge smile on his face.

Bred by Teeley Assets Limited, whom must be happy with the foals that Weekend Gossip are producing as they sent Weekend Gossip to Widden Stud again to have her served by Stratum.

Lightly raced, Weekend Gossip is a daughter of Hussonet, and a half-sister to the outstanding ANZ Australasian Champion 3YO and joint top colt in 2005-06 season, Mentality (by Flying Spur).

A six-year-old, Weekend Gossip hails from the American bred mare, Synaesthesia (by Quiet American) a half-sister to the Grade 1 Saratoga Test stakes winner, Fara's Team (by Tunerup), in turn the dam of the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Classic and Hollywood Californian Stakes winner Concern (by Broad Brush).

In the third dam the another South American Grade 1 winner appears, Mr. Mccartney.

NOT ENOUGH? Stratum (ex Bourgeois) was trained by Paul Perry when he won the Group 1 Golden Slipper as a juvenile at just his fourth racetrack appearance after taking the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes at the same course at a start earlier.

During his classic year, Stratum went to the races another 12-times, and, although he was unable to win he did run against the very best company and performed extremely well collecting the runners-up cheque in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes and the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, behind the fleet footed Snitzel. Stratum then travelled to Victoria for another campaign. Again running in top class races without luck Stratum was pitted against the likes of; Red Dazzler in the G2 Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley (1600m) and Takeover Target and Snitzel in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

Stratum retired with an ANZ Classification of 114 to Widden Stud in New South Wales and commanded a fee of $30,250 (inc GST).

Breeders' rushed to the young colt, and, from the 150 foals from his first crop to race was a bay filly from Crystal Snip (by Snippets). Named, Crystal Lily the filly gave the young stallion a huge kick-start to his new career when she powered home in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes. The young sires, second winner at the elite level came in 2011 when the Guy Walter trained, Streama (ex Pensiamo by Sovereign Red) easily won the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).

Stratum's stock have been in strong demand and his progeny have blossomed at the track. As of mid-February, Stratum is credited with 10 stakes winners and 12 stakes placegetters from 233 runners, with 125 individual winners, and earnings of more than $10million. Breeders' support is as solid as his ratio of winners to runners! Last spring he covered mares at a fee of $55,000 (inc GST).

He is the fourth Golden Slipper winner to stand at Widden Stud, following in the illustrious hoof prints of Todman, Vain and Marscay, all champion sires. Plus, Stratum's female line has plenty of ‘Golden Slipper’ about it, with his first two dams being by Golden Slipper winners, Luskin Star and Vain, while his sire’s dam is by another Golden Slipper winner in Canny Lad.

Gary Portelli, a young trainer based at Warwick Farm, and has trained two Group 1 winners Rena's Lady and Gold Trail.
