A Son for Leon's Polish
2YO Colt by Haradasun - Moments I Treasure
This chestnut colt is set to join the stable of Leon Macdonald, trainer of this year's Caulfield Cup heroine Southern Speed, and is by the multiple Group 1 winner, Haradasun.
Macdonald personally selected the colt out of the paddock of Valmai and Peter Toole's Ducatoon Park in South Australia with Toole saying, "Leon came out to the farm and saw this chap racing around the paddock and he told me he just had to have him to train."
Toole, like Macdonald is a horseman. His father Laurie was a successful amateur jockey on the Eyre Peninsula, and dabbled in breeding for years before he purchased the W.S. Cox Plate winner in Chanak. They have produced some very good gallopers in the ilk of Favoured (Queen Of The Turf and 13 Sydney wins); Inner Magic (STC Reisling Slipper Trial); Bianca (STC Reisling Slipper Trial and Black Opal Stakes); Lady Fontaine (SAJC Oaks) and Ducatoon (QTC Stradbroke- later disqualified and runner-up in both the AJC Doncaster Hcp and the VATC Futurity Stakes to Manikato).
By a former top-class galloper in both hemisphere's Haradasun, who was always going to attract headlines being a half-brother to the globetrotting Group 1 winner, Elvstroem. Living up to those expectations Haradasun son won on debut as a late two-year-old by 10 lengths.
Returning in his classic season he immediately graduated to stakes grade winning the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield. The following autumn, he graduated to Group 1 company, when the bay colt notched up the prestigious Group 1 double of the STC George Ryder Stakes (wfa 1500m) and the AJC Doncaster Handicap (1600m Hcp).
Those wins prompted Coolmore Stud to buy a 50% stake, for a reported $60million, and the following spring saw the colt claim five successive group race placing's in Victoria. Subsequently, transferred from the stable of Tony Vasil to Coolmore's private trainer, Aidan O'Brien in Ireland.
Haradasun campaigned in the northern hemisphere and at his second start in Europe, he beat a crack field in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes (1600m) at Royal Ascot before his retirement to stud duties in Australia in 2008.
Covering 130 good quality mares during that first season the sales results have reflected the quality of in his stock with a filly from Classy Dane fetching $100,000 during the first session of the 2010 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale in 2010. This result was followed up at this years' Magic Millions National Yearling Sale when another fetched $175,000.
Another positive indicator for the young sires' stock was recorded at the official two year-old barrier trials at Canterbury, in September, when My Shabella (f ex Risky Banter by Rory’s Jester) won a trial by three-and-a-quarter lengths.
Not enough? The colt is out of an American mare, Moments I Treasure and although the daughter of Mt. Livermore didn't get to the track in Australia she did in England. A sister to the stakes placed Lavender Sky, a multiple winner in North America with earnings of more than $230,000, Moments I Treasure is a half-sister to another nine winners including the French stakes winning Mystic Melody (by Seattle Slew) and the stakes placed Numaany (by A. P. Indy), winner of nine races in North America.
The colts pedigree does possess a nice twist as the sire of Haradasun, Fusaichi Pegasus is building a good record when he covers mares by Mt. Livermore, the sire of Moments I Treasure. Statistics show of the eight horses bred on this cross seven of them have got to the races. Four are listed as winners and another two have run placing's and one of them, Country Song is a stakes placegetter. All up those horses have earned more than $450,000!
Mt. Livermore hails from a tough mare in Questar, a three-quarter-sister to Carolyn A., a winner of four stakes events against her own sex, but defeated males in the Louisiana Derby, and was placed in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
Australian pedigree reports show three stakes winners with Mt. Livermore as the dam sire when the mare covered is by a son of Mr. Prospector. Those performers have collected earnings that total $1.5million in Australia. All up as a broodmare sire, Mt Livermore has left 70 stakes winners with earnings nearing $79million.

Trainer Details
The colt is going to be trained out leading South Australian trainer Leon Macdonald's yard who has been training since 1972, initially after training on a part-time basis, his record built quickly and he began training full-time in 1975.
From humble beginnings Leon has built up an imposing record, with the icing on the cake last spring when he saddled up the winner of the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, Southern Speed. The richest 2400 metre handicap in the world, and one of the hardest to win outside the Melbourne Cup, the win was a superb result for his stable.
Right from the earliest days Leon Macdonald's horses have held imposing records - the first filly he brought to Melbourne, Scarlet Rhythm, was runner-up Rose Of Kingston in the Group 2 VRC Bloodhorse Breeders Plate. While other early horses that helped bring his talents to notice were Taminor and French Cotton both were youngsters with plenty of ability, and, Leon brought that out in them.
Since then his stable has turned out some top-line gallopers in the shape of Our Bright Halo, Follow The Ride, Umrum (two Group 1 Toorak Handicaps and raced successfully for seven consecutive seasons), Gold Guru (Group 1 Australian Guineas, Group 1 Ranvet Stakes, Group 1 Australian Derby) and Rebel Raider (Group 1 VRC Derby).
Along with Southern Speed, Macdonald has saddled up winners in the ilk of Dilly Dally (G1 AJC TJ Smith Stakes), Regal Kiss, Make A Scene (Ballarat Cup), Eagle Rhythm (Cranbourne and Bairnsdale Cups), Kattavia (Cranbourne Cup), Shaye Spice (Moonee Valley Horse Of The Year 2002 –03).
Macdonald is now looking to the future with many unraced two-year-olds being put through their paces. The stable will be looking forward to their debuts.
